An ubiquitous brand to me sounds like something that offers no real identity value. If it is "everywhere", it is also "nowhere". If a brand is indeed everywhere, then there aren't any socially relevant places which it can say it "owns". Or more importantly, there aren't any social places where it ISN'T present. People nowadays identify themselves more through what they are not instead of what they are.

But as a business strategy, it might actually be a better cash cow, at least in the short term. But the thing is, it's also a position can be potentially challenged if you don't have any brand value, you've essentially become a commodity.

I don't know if my ubiquitous brand definition is the same as you had in mind, though.

nokia is already global and always, at least, tries to think globally.

what next? how about from global to ubiquitous? what would that mean? how could that be possible? is it different from global? i'd say it is. what do you think? does it mean that nokia moves from nokia phones to phones "powered by nokia"? ;)
